The Confession

One text, once, to one friend who's in on it: "…and your sandwich."

Download shortcut⏱ 1m setup

Open in Safari on your iPhone. Download the file, open it from Safari Downloads or Files, then follow the prompts to add it in Shortcuts.

What happens

At the time you pick, their phone texts one mutual friend: “I’ve been thinking about you… and your sandwich.” After Send Message completes, it records that it has sent and skips future runs. It’s text only, with no personal data, and never anything that could read as an emergency. The friend should be in on the joke, or at least the kind of person who’ll find it funny.

Setup

  1. Open this page in Safari on the iPhone, download the file (or AirDrop it), open it from Safari Downloads or Files, and tap Add Shortcut.
  2. While importing, it asks for one mutual friend’s number, someone who’ll laugh. That’s the only person it can ever text. Fill it in before tapping Add Shortcut.
  3. Long-press it in Shortcuts → All Shortcuts → Rename and call it Daily Helper, so it doesn’t give itself away.
  4. Shortcuts → Automation → + → Time of Day, pick a time when they’re around, Daily, select Run Immediately, tap Next and choose the shortcut.
  5. Tap Always Allow for Messages the first time it runs. Don’t test-run it, because the first successful run sends the text. If a run errors, check the Messages conversation before retrying: a message can be delivered even if saving its completion marker fails.

Undo

Open Shortcuts → Automation, swipe left on the automation and tap Delete. Then delete the shortcut. A saved completion marker prevents another send. Do not remove the-confession-sent.txt unless you intend to rearm it.

State and testing

The saved state lives in Files → iCloud Drive → Shortcuts → shortcut-to-hell: the-confession-sent.txt. Keep iCloud Drive available. Manual runs affect the same counters as automation runs. Deleting this shortcut does not delete its saved state.

Test the trigger

Installing the file does not create its automation. After the manual test, trigger the event once and check the result. If the shortcut picker is unavailable, create a blank automation, add Run Shortcut, and select this shortcut. Menus, previews and app-opening actions may still need interaction or an unlocked phone even with Run Immediately selected. If it stops, run from the shortcut’s … editor to identify the failing action.
